Florida Polytechnic University invites applications from highly qualified candidates for the Dr. Muhammad Harunur Rashid Chair of the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Cybersecurity Engineering, with an appointment at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor in one of the disciplines within the department. The initial, renewable appointment as Chair is for 3 years; the initial faculty appointment may range from 3-6 years, depending on the experience and qualifications of the candidate. Both positions will begin on or before August 2025.

Dr. Muhammad Rashid
Muhammad H. Rashid is the founding chair of Electrical, Computer, and Cybersecurity Engineering at Florida Polytechnic University. Having earned a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Birmingham in the UK, Dr. Rashid has experience at the University of West Florida, University of Florida, Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne, University of Connecticut, Concordia University, Purdue University Calumet, and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.
Dr. Rashid remains actively involved in teaching and research in electronics, power electronics, and professional ethics. He has published 29 books and more than 160 technical papers. He is a fellow of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET, UK) and a life fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). He was elected an IEEE fellow with the citation, “Leadership in power electronics education and contributions to the analysis and design methodologies of solid-state power converters.” Dr. Rashid is consistently listed among the top 2% of scientists globally, with recognition as a Top Scholar by ScholarGPS.

TENURE-EQUIVALENT SYSTEM
Faculty at Florida Poly are employed via renewable, multi-year appointments codified in a collective bargaining agreement. This tenure-equivalent system substantially mirrors tenure systems at other schools, with reappointment and progression in rank based on a comprehensive review of accomplishments. Initial contract durations are as follows:
Assistant Professor: 3 years
Associate Professor: 3-5 years
Professor: 6 years
Applicants with post-PhD experience may be offered an accelerated timeline to apply for promotion to the next academic rank. Under this tenure-equivalent system, faculty are eligible to compete for NSF and NIH grants, including career grants.
